WE ARE NATURE 2022 Earth Ethics

Reserve or purchase tickets here.

Event Details:

  • Theme Introduction by Fritjof Capra: Earth Ethics

  • Solo by Princess Lockerooo: Lotus

The Queen Of Waacking presents a high fashion floral Waacking number filled with emotion, drama and a deep connection to the music.

  • Site-Specific Dance choreographed by Thryn Saxon: Mother Tongue | Performers: Maggie Costales and Jamie Klienschnitz; Live Music by Bre Short

‘This piece explores the principles of reciprocity and cooperation over competition between human, plant, and animal life. As the Kingsland Wildflowers offer a habitat for species to come home to, so too does this piece, bringing the performers back to their organic roots; Earth, Water, and Sky. They tread lightly so as to support the environment around them while offering their own gifts of homecoming to the space’

  • Rooftop Concert by Duo Livia & Fred

Visiting from Brazil, Livia Nestrovski & Fred Ferreira form a dynamic duo of voice and electric guitar that is both subtle and virtuosic, experimental and elegant: the potency of a minimal set in a journey through old and new songs from Brazil and the World.

NOoSPHERE Arts Presents the Climate Week-inspired event: WE ARE NATURE: PATTERNS OF CONNECTION I Earth Ethics. The 6th and last live performance event of the summer series will feature site-specific dance pieces choreographed by Thryn Saxon and Princess Lockerooo curated by CreateART, a rooftop concert by Duo Livia & Fred, and a theme introduction by Fritjof Capra.

Itonje Søimer Guttormsen: "Gritt" Outdoor feature film screening + Q&A with filmmaker

About this event:

The film follows the title character on her journey from Bushwick, Brooklyn, to Oslo and beyond. Gritt is on a passionate quest to manifest her performance, “The White Inflammation”, a radical collective ritual meant to pierce the complacent fog cloaking privileged Scandinavia. With each hurdle, Gritt grows more desperate, and her mission to bury capitalism and the patriarchy takes her to increasingly unexpected places. Pushed by forces beyond her control, Gritt finds her way into the deep forests, where nature opens hidden doors.

Saturday, June 25, 6:00-10:00 pm. Purchase or reserve your tickets here.

@NOoSPHERE Arts’ Stage Roof below Kingsland Wildflowers

520 Kingsland Avenue, Greenpoint, Brooklyn

Indigenous Inti Raymi celebration with with dance & music by Ñukanchik Llakta Wawakuna, Ñawpa Mashikuna, and Comunidad Andida from the Andes and local practitioners of Danza Mexica; live music by Afro-Cuban Melvis Santa & her band, La Rumba de Santa; and wise words on Nature’s Cycles by internationally renowned ecoliteracy scholar Fritjof Capra. On Kingsland Wildflowers’ Lower Meadow, Mensajes Espirituales by La Aurora, a Santera Mayor. On the Upper Meadow, you can experience a site-specific installation by Brazilian artist Sabrina Barrios: an eco-feminist take on ancient celestial mythology.

The Inti Raymi (Quechua for "Inti festival") is a traditional religious ceremony of the Inca Empire in honor of the god Inti (Quechua for "sun"), the most venerated deity in Inca religion. Marking summer solstice (winter solstice in the territories south of the equator), it is typically celebrated on June 24.

Ñukanchik Llakta Wawakuna is a NYC-based group of Andean immigrants that uses the art of dance to teach and celebrate traditional culture and strengthen their identity. Wawakuna (meaning “children”) focuses not only on the kids, but also educates their parents about their rights as immigrants and encourages them to remain proud of being campesinos (peasants) or indigenous.

Melvis Santa: La Rumba de Santa | A 4-piece ensemble dedicated to celebrate and preserve this genre: La Rumba. The spontaneous and mysterious atmosphere of Rumba builds towards ecstatic fervor and serves as a common ground to the Afro diaspora experience: the ritual drumming, dance, and call- and-response passed down by generations. Melvis has been well known in Cuba since she was fourteen years old and formed the all-female vocal quartet Sexto Sentido. In 2010, Melvis spread her wings and appeared as one of the lead vocalists of Interactivo, a seminal fusion band in Cuba, recording and touring worldwide. Her creative practice is inspired by her own culture. Born and raised in Havana within a multicultural family, Santa has shaped her artistic mission towards integrating her life experiences into her art as a form of resilience and cultural preservation, her Yoruba, Bantu and Arara lineages rooted in Africa are still maintained across Cuba. Melvis and her group bring this powerful, ecstatic tradition to new spaces.

Melvis’s mom, La Aurora, is a healer and facilitator: a Santera Mayor, a renowned priestess of Oshun. Honoring her ancestors’ lineage, La Aurora travels across the globe offering her gift of guidance and vast knowledge to nurture pathways for others to realize their destinies. (Please sign up in advance with your full name to la.aurora.readings@gmail.com)

Thanks to our sponsors, we are pleased to offer donation-based admission to this summer’s string of outdoor performances. Funds raised through patron contributions will provide crucial support towards continued arts programming across our SUPER FUN SITE on the bank of Newtown Creek.

6th Annual Kingsland Wildflowers Festival

Join the Kingsland Wildflowers partners on July 23rd from 4pm-8pm for a summer evening of hands-on activities, art, entertainment, and fun!

The native rooftop meadow and wildlife habitat located on the banks of Newtown Creek, a federal Superfund site, was created through a close collaboration of private and non-profit entities looking to rewrite the narrative on the possibilities of the cohabitation of ecology and industry. This annual festival aims to bring awareness to Greenpoint’s and the surrounding communities' long-standing environmental burden and its transition to a cleaner, healthier future as well as the global climate crisis and the potential for local, community-based solutions.

Programming will include mances & visual arts curated by NOoSPHERE Arts, native plant sale and harvested seed giveaway, guided green rooftop tours with Alive Structures, creekside marine ecology activities, family-friendly and educational activities, tabling by various community-based organizations, And more!
