Newtown Creek Alliance is a community-based organization dedicated to restoring, revealing, and revitalizing Newtown Creek while representing the interests of community residents and local businesses who are dedicated to restoring community health, water quality, habitat, access, and vibrant water-dependent commerce along Newtown Creek. Since 2002, the Alliance has served as a catalyst and channel for effective community action and our efforts have made a positive and enduring impact on the health and quality of life of Creek-side communities.

Since 1983, founder Tony Argento has shaped a successful neighborhood business with more than one bottom line. The family-run company is a committed neighbor and activist in Greenpoint. In the past, Broadway Stages has worked with experts and community leaders to develop innovative solutions to sustainable construction and roof design. The company is excited to provide both roof space and matching funds for the 520 Kingsland Avenue project. The chance to offer Greenpoint a community green space that stresses both native biodiversity and education aligns very well with their core business values.


Founded in 2007, Alive Structures is a certified woman-owned landscaping business based in Greenpoint, Brooklyn. The company focuses on green roofs, ecological landscapes and green walls. The company was founded with the intention of affecting the New York City landscape in a new and environmentally conscious way, with special focus on native biodiversity. The results have been impressive: both large and small-scale rooftops offering clientele the ability to transform concrete surfaces into living and growing structures. These oases provide important natural habitat for birds, butterflies and crucial pollinators for our cityscape.


New York City Audubon is a vibrant grassroots community that supports birds and important wildlife habitat across the five boroughs. With 10,000 members throughout the city, the organization is committed to developing green awareness and green space for both wildlife and people.


NOoSPHERE Arts (est. 2011) is a 501c3 organization run by a team of international creatives whose backgrounds blend the arts and sciences. Serving as KWBS’ Arts Producer & Presenter since 2018, the passion-driven nonprofit offers collaborative, multidisciplinary arts programming at the nexus of art and eco-awareness. NOoSPHERE Arts was founded by Sol Kjøk, Broadway Stages’ Artist-in-Residence working out of Last Frontier NYC, the in-house painting studio located just below the roof gardens.


Greenpoint Community Environmental Fund (GCEF) is a joint program of the New York State Office of the Attorney General and Department of Environmental Conservation. The GCEF program is an environmental grant program created by the State of New York with monies obtained through a settlement with ExxonMobil over its Greenpoint oil spill. The GCEF’s goal is to fund projects that will address the Greenpoint Community’s environmental priorities through a process that is open, transparent, and ensures ongoing engagement and partnership with the community.
