Kingsland Wildflowers Sensorium

  • Kingsland Wildflowers 520 Kingsland Avenue Brooklyn, NY, 11222 United States (map)

Join us during Greenpoint Open Studios Weekend where art meets nature on the green roof.

Explore the 'Sensorium' our life-size, up-cycled scrap denim birdhouse, where visitors will be invited to sit inside and rest, listening to a beautiful song scape composed by Alap Momin using birdsong recorded on the rooftop. The installation was made with denim scraps collected from local designer, Merica Lee and Greenpoint-based shop, Loren Denim. Several artists put in work including bird eye paintings by local painter Diego Sanchez-Maitret, material dyed with flowers from the rooftop by natural dyer Cara Piazza, textile artists María del Mar Lugo, the Herban Cura Collective, Kalen Kaminski, and many more folks contributed scraps, embroidered and sewed (including project coordinator, Niki Jackson). The piece echos the very idea of the rooftop itself: preserving available material/ space to create or transform into sanctuary or wildlife habitat within our community.
