In conjunction with Jane's Walk NYC, join NCA Historian Mitch Waxman and Executive Director Willis Elkins for an in-depth tour through Greenpoint Brooklyn to witness and discuss a number of key environmental issues from the largest underground oil spill, the Superfund cleanup of Newtown Creek, and the City's largest sewage treatment plant. The tour will begin at the McCarren park Demonstration Garden and conclude at Kingsland Wildflowers at Broadway Stages, a 24,000 sq foot green roof on the shores of Newtown Creek.
We ask attendees to wear sturdy shoes and prepare for industrial terrain. In total, the walk is 2.5 miles long. This tour is free and open to the public.
Funding for Kingsland Wildflowers at Broadway Stages is provided by the Office of the New York State Attorney General and the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation through the Greenpoint Community Environmental Fund.
